The Yale University Environmental Sciences Center (ESC) integrates teaching and research activities of several distinct University departments and the Peabody Museum of Natural History. It brings together faculty from numerous disciplines to foster collaborative research and shared resources. Interaction is encouraged through small, informal conversation areas where researchers, students, and faculty meet. The research laboratories are based on a flexible module that accommodates the wide variety of research activities and methods. The design also incorporates a light well, which serves as the unifying space in the ESC and source for indirect, natural light that meets stringent curatorial UV requirements for the Peabody’s collections.
