DMSAS has been engaged by Mark Development to design a 50-unit apartment building in downtown West Newton, MA. The site consists of an existing Neoclassical bank which is being restored and converted into a restaurant. The new building will be 5 stories, built over one level of below-grade parking. The ground floor features residential amenities which open onto an outdoor terrace that is set back from the street. The architecture is traditionally inspired to blend comfortably with the neighborhood’s historic character but strives for a simple and restrained elegance through the use of slender window proportions, narrow string courses and a mansard roof.
