Originally from Augusta, Georgia, Derek began his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology before completing his Bachelors in Urban Planning at the University of Cincinnati in 2012. While at the University of Cincinnati, Derek participated in the college’s cooperative education program, alternating academic semesters with multi-disciplinary professional practice at architecture, planning, and historic preservation firms across the country. After practicing in Cincinnati, Derek moved to DC and joined DMSAS in 2015. Since then he has worked on mixed-use, hospitality and residential projects including Le Guanahani in St. Barths and the 750 North Glebe development in Northern Virginia. Derek lives with his partner, Ed, and their two dogs, George and Otto, in a 1901 DC row house (which is a project unto itself). Derek also enjoys cooking, traveling, and learning about gardening.
