West Village
Dallas, TX - 2000
The Uptown district has evolved over the last
ten years as the premier urban living, shopping and entertainment district in
Dallas. West Village will be a central neighborhood hub for the Uptown area and
will contain housing, retail and restaurant uses. West Village includes 178 luxury apartment
units and 125,000 square feet of high-end retail space. Building heights range
from one to four stories with retail uses occupying the lower levels and
apartments above. A network of
intimately scaled one-way streets organizes the project into five blocks: a
large 400’ square block at the center with smaller blocks occurring at each of
the project’s four corners. The parking garage occupies the middle of the large
center block. The garage is wrapped on
all four sides by two stylistically different four-story buildings with
retail/restaurant uses on the ground level and residential above. Residential
courtyards and a service court occupy the interstitial space between the garage
and apartment/retail uses. Street-level retail with residential units above
occurs on three of these blocks, with a movie theatre over retail occurring on
the fourth. These buildings make use of
a variety of architectural styles with different building heights and thus make
a lively and varied streetscape for the project.
