Sundance West Apartment Building
Fort Worth, TX - 1988

Sundance West marks the first opportunity for downtown residential living in the Downtown commercial center of Fort Worth.  This breakthrough building is the first stage of a three-phase project aimed at revitalizing Fort Worth's urban core. The 12-story brick and limestone structure combines luxury apartments, a 200-space underground parking garage, retail and entertainment, providing tenants the possibility to meet many of their needs under the same roof.

Gable roofs, pediments, recessed balconies and architectural ornament all enhance the residential ambience.  Human scale and detailing carefully weave together Victorian turn-of-the-century characteristics and modernism to create a presence that is innovative yet warmly familiar.

For recreation, Sundance West offers the first downtown cinemas in Fort Worth.  The 11-cinema complex is located above the retail level, and features a four-story high lobby.  Designed as a movie set cityscape with metal girders, columns and trusses framing views of a distant urban skyline, the lobbies recall the splendor and fantasy of early 20th century movie palaces.

Sundance West contributes to the community visually by bridging the gap between modern and traditional, small scale and large. Equally important, it offers an opportunity to promote the revitalization of downtown Fort Worth as a mature modern city serving all major needs.
